I don’t want to spend money on something I don’t need. At least that’s what I thought about when buying air purifiers in Singapore became a thing.

Air purifiers aren’t only expensive, they can be costly to operate too because in more cases than not, they typically run around-the-clock. What’s more, from what I’ve been reading, they have limitations in terms of their specifications. For instance, some air purifiers remove only airborne particles, while others also filter out dust and pet dander in the surroundings.

But, beyond all these, there’s one fact that made me decide to buy an air purifier at home:

Why Do You Need an Air Purifier?

As it turns out, the indoor air can be up to 5 times as dirty as the outdoor air and because we spend most of our time within the confines of our homes and offices, our exposure to such poor quality of air can put us at risk for some serious health conditions.

I purchased my air purifier from a brand that also offers rental air purifiers in SingaporeWhat we have is quite a mid-range model that is 40% more energy efficient than other standard models. It also costs as low as $30 to run every year. It’s also engineered to remove dust, pollen, smoke, and dander on high and low speeds.

If you’re like me who used to not be convinced with air purifiers, you should at least assess your indoor air quality needs, If you’re looking for overall air quality improvement, you should consider models with HEPA filters which are marketed to remove up to 99.997% of airborne allergens even of up to 0.3 microns. These include:

• dust and dust mites

• mould spores

• ragweed; and

• pet dander

If you’re tight on budget, you can help lower your costs by focusing on only one or two specific needs that you need your air purifier to provide.

Allergies - If you suffer from allergies, you should opt for an air purifier intended to provide allergy relief. It typically includes multiple filters such as HEPA filters to remove different indoor allergens.

Asthma - If, on the other hand, you have asthma that’s triggered by odour and chemical pollutants, you’ll want to opt for asthma or odour/chemical air purifier for effective allergen particle removal.

Smoke - For the last option I know, you can opt for smoke air purifiers that are specifically made to remove smoke and other fumes that can aggravate existing respiratory conditions.

On top of all these, you should also factor in the cost of maintaining your air purifier. Air filters will require replacing as recommended by the manufacturer. This is to upkeep its efficiency in removing pollutants in the air. I would suggest you to take such a cost into consideration.

If you’re still not sure of which air purifier to get, I can’t help you any further because I’m in no way of an expert in the field but I know someone who is: Purlife Company.
